Giving Poetry a Shot
6th Grade English Class Shares Their Poetry
by Kathy Headrick
December 22, 2009
Some of the 6th grade students wrote poetry that they wanted to share:
Looking Outside My Window, I Might See by Mack
Looking outside my window I see a hundred
Different things,
Like the whispering tree branches that swing
Like the golfer that always slings
The club
Like the bee that stings
With some wings.
Like the backyard king
Whose dog pen overflows with weeds
Like the very pretty flowers in the spring
Like the smell of warm chicken wings
Like the melting
Ice in the winter cold
Like the merry bells that ring
Looking outside my window, I see a hundred
Different things.
Trees by Alex
Trees whine and cry.
Trees gentle and kind then
BANG they're gone.
Trees are gone-no-more-
Forever they're gone because
Of man and his need for land.
The Battle by Erik
You're ready to go in the octagon again,
Seeking revenge on the opponent, the other man
You go into the fight,
Thinking that you might beat this guy
He's thinking this is all a joke
Then you get him in a choke
He gets stumped, he's blacking out.
Then he makes the decision to
TAPOUT
He is my King by Tatum
Up above He watches over us
He listens to our grace and to our thanks
We praise him for life and family
Hoping that someday when we die we will get to see him
He is as far away as beyond the atmosphere, that we have no idea what He is like
Except for that He is holy and loves no matter what
If you do not believe start today
Because He gave us birth
And He is our king of Heaven and Earth
Storms by Brylee
A clash of thunder here
A flash of lightning there
The patter of rain
Reliving pain
The hit of hail
On the window sill
Like footsteps in the cellar
Like a dweller
Finally it stops
The door pops
Open in front of me
All I see
Is the beautiful sun
And the storm is finally done
