8th Graders Writing Too Much?

Yikes! The eighth graders are writing too much! That's not a phrase most people are used to hearing, but in this particular case, it's true. We are writing short-stories, using a format called a "story diamond." Although I want them to slow down, writing only one section at a time, they have taken off like race horses! What an enthusiastic group they are.
They have so many creative ideas that I'm having to rein them in and ask them to take this writing process one step at a time. Some of them have already written several pages, which tells me they are a very imaginative group.
We are hoping to post the completed projects on the web, so stay tuned to find out the link for viewing their short-stories.
In November, each of them wrote three poems apiece then selected their best one to enter in a poetry competition. We should be hearing back from that later this winter. I feel confident some of their work will be selected for publishing.
