May 20, 2009, school officials from Haviland, Mullinville, and Greensburg took the 2009-2010 Kiowa County Junior High students to Mullinville for a day of mixer activities. Next school year, students from all three schools will be cooperating for junior high sports. Joe Coles, educational consultant from Southwest Plains Regional Service Center, volunteered to put together a day of activities to give the students a chance to get to know one another. The goal is to get the students acquainted with each other, to teach them a little about the importance of teamwork and teambuilding, and to be proactive as the schools work together next year.
Mullinville hosted the students from about 9:00 - 1:00. Coles organized the event and the Mullinville kitchen staff (along with help from Clint Corby and Darrel Kohlman) provided hamburgers, chips, beans, potato salad, and cookies for lunch.
The administration knows the importance of being proactive as we enter this cooperative agreement for junior high athletics. However, students will have a huge part to play in the success of the joint venture. Today was for the kids and about the kids.
